Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Independent Sch

Bratislava, Slovakia | 19 - 21 April 2012

The independent schools are significant players providing diversity in education, supported by the national organizations. They take an active part in the civil society. The role played differs from country to country, but in each country the visions, ideas and experiences born in the independent schools are important inputs for the development of tomorrow’s education.
Each school has its own identity, its own organizational life, experiences and knowledge. This year’s conference theme addresses schools as learning organizations to meet the challenges for the future with both courage and openness with respect for its own history and traditions.
The annual theme for ECNAIS for 2011 was diversity in education.
We do see the actual theme Entrepreneurship and Innovation as a follow up on the theme of 2011.
Entrepreneurship is connected with creativity, action and understanding of values that includes not only economical action, but also cultural and social action. This understanding gives pupils opportunities to use their knowledge and competences and to realize entrepreneurial initiatives and activities. Their plans can be carried out in real life, and it gives pupils an opportunity to act themselves and acquire by doing so real-life experiences.
This understanding means that entrepreneurship is not exclusively for commercial education, but can be integrated as an important element in a wider educational culture.
