Seminar on Parental Rights in Education
Antwerp, Belgium | 27 February 2012
Seminar on Parental Rights in Education
Organised by:
ELA "European Association for Education Law and Policy"
and ECNAIS "European Council of National Assotiations of Independent Schools"
(= besides EFFE the second major European umbrella organization for representatives of independent schools)
Lecturer in this conference was the lawyer Prof. Jan De Groof, who wrote extensive, specialized literature on European education law, as well as a doctoral thesis on "The Right to and the Freedom of Education / The regime of free choice of denominational and non-denominational schools". - This, and his personal commitment to the freedom of the schools and the freedom of school choice, make him an influential expert on the Brussels EU legislature. De Groof is supported by the Belgian lawyer specializing in school law Gracienne Lauwers.Working Group in the Conference Room
States represented by participants:
Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Greece. At the recent conference in Stuttgart initiated by Florian Amlinger (spokesman of the Association of Waldorf parents) we showed vivid interest in an active and open collaboration with the activities of ECNAIS so our participation was entirely possible in this meeting which was completely funded by the EU. Especially in the area of parental involvement the board of the "Förderverband" ows extensive experience - which proved to be of particular value in this meeting. The history of the Austrian parliamentary initiatives „FreieSchulwahl.at" and „Schul-Petition.at" which were mothballed in the parliament, was emphatically reflected by the participants. It was therefore a logical approach searching for the pan-European network, if proceeding nationally is not realy possible.
In our situation, we are obviously not alone.
