Yes, school fees. |
The Budget appropriation is calculated as follows:
75% of the average expense per student in lower/secondary school multiplied with the number of students in independent schools by the 5th September in a certain year.
The total appropriation is shared among the schools according to a mathematical model taking into account the teachers´ age distribution, relation between young students and older students and the size of the school so that small schools will get more subsidies per student than large schools.
Apart from the subsidy for running the school a special building grant per student, transporting, cost and lodging and a special grant to the German minority schools. |

There is a wide range of different funding systems in the various German states. As an average about 70% of the state’s own unit cost (cost per student) is paid by the state, whereas local administrations give only minor regular subsidies (average about 150 Euro/pupil/year), but may contribute considerably towards building costs. |

The calculations of the fixed and identical subsidy per class is made by the Government, Schools Associations and Teachers’ Unions. The amount could vary +/-10%. Larger schools could receive the greater subsidy. |
